Mallorca Cycling Guide: Routes, Tips & Planning Advice - Label Collective

Mallorca: The Ultimate Cycling Playground

Mallorca offers a welcome escape. We would know, we lived on the island for a year and its been a go to spot for Label Collective, its even where we were born. So swap thermal gear for bib shorts and dive into a landscape made for riding. With mild weather, scenic roads, and a rhythm of life that suits cyclists, it’s no surprise Mallorca is a go-to destination for riders across Europe and beyond

Why Ride in Mallorca?

Over the last 20 years, Mallorca has built its reputation as one of the top cycling destinations in the world. What began as a seasonal training ground for pro teams has evolved into a year-round cycling hotspot. Events like the Mallorca 312 have helped put it on the map, but it’s the island’s natural beauty, infrastructure, and ride variety that keep cyclists coming back.

Mallorca delivers on all fronts:

  • Smooth tarmac and well-maintained roads
  • A mix of long climbs, fast descents, and rolling coastal roads
  • Predictable gradients that are challenging but manageable
  • A huge variety of rides within short distances
  • Top-tier accommodation and cycling-friendly cafés
  • Easy access via short flights from major European cities

It’s not just a destination for hardcore riders, either. Mallorca works just as well if you’re bringing non-cyclists, family, or want a more laid-back trip. The infrastructure supports both the serious and the social rider.

Best Time to Cycle in Mallorca

The beauty of Mallorca is that it’s rideable nearly year-round.

  • Spring (March–May): Expect mild temperatures, blooming landscapes, and plenty of daylight. One of the best seasons for longer rides.
  • Summer (June–August): Hot but doable with early morning rides. Coastal breezes offer some relief.
  • Autumn (September–November): Warm seas, golden light, and quieter roads. A sweet spot for most cyclists.
  • Winter (December–February): Cooler and windier, but still miles ahead of most northern European climates. A great option for base training.

Where to Stay for the Best Access to Rides

Your base matters. Here are some top spots depending on the type of ride you’re after:

  • Pollença / Port de Pollença: Perfect for direct access to the Tramuntana climbs. Popular with training camps and experienced riders. The only downside is its very tourist filled in season and there are little resturants and variet.
  • Sóller: Ideal for those who want character, charm, and easy access to Sa Calobra and Puig Major. You will have a good climb out no matter the direction as the tunnel can only be used by cars.
  • Alcúdia: it is a great base with beach access and proximity to both flat and mountainous routes, however it is a ghost town in the winter which leads to places not being open as often.
  • Palma: A good city base if you want some nightlife and culture with your ride.
  • Alaro: This is our number one pick, its right in the middle of things, you have access to the flat routes and mountains and your close to Palma. Theres also fantastic coffee at Cycling Planet.
